Vespa (meaning wasp) is an Italian brand of scooter manufactured by Piaggiofirst introducedin 1946 by Piaggio & Co. S.p.A. From their inception, Vespa scooters have been known for their painted, pressed steel unibody which, in a unified structural unit, encloses the engine and concealing dirt or grease), with a flat floorboard (foot protection), and a prominent front fairing (wind protection). Within a little over 10 years, production grew to more than 20’000 per year.
